The Who-A Quick One

A Quick One

Yep… I got the release without the normal version of Happy Jack, which is OK because I have it in other places. In its stead we have a reasonable performance of Barbara Ann. Maybe.

Once I was old enough to understand bands and songwriting I liked to make tapes of songs by the “other” writers: John Entwistle, George Harrison, Dave Davies, Dennis Wilson… the Entwistle tape was pretty wild and I listened to it a lot. As time went on these other guys seemed to not get as carried away as the main writers in their groups, so in Entwistle’s case you can pretty much draw a straight line from “Boris the Spider” to “The Quiet One” and get something cohesive. Not quite as easy to draw a line from “I Can’t Explain” to “You Better You Bet”, and nowhere near as fun.
